Applause Records was founded in Beverly Hills, California in 1981 by music publisher Arthur Mogull. The label had three lines of releases: new material by mostly 1960s pop and jazz vocalists in the 1000-Series, reissues of Blue Note and Pacific Jazz albums, usually with new and inferior cover art, in the 2000-Series, and a select few re-releases of Capitol pop albums in the 3000-Series.
Most of Applause Records' output is forgettable and not collector's standard. The label survived only for about two years and the last album was released early in 1983.
