JAPO Records was a subsidiary/sister label of German jazz label ECM, founded in 1970 by Karl Egger and based in Munich. JAPO stands for "Jazz by Post," a record mail order business. JAPO existed until 1985 and produced 41 albums, primarily avant-garde and jazz fusion, by artists such as Mal Waldron, Dollar Brand, Barre Phillips, Alfred Harth, Herbert Joos, Bobby Naughton, Edward Vesala, Manfred Schoof, George Gruntz and Heiner Goebbels.
