Chelsea Records was founded by songwriter ("Hang on Sloopy") and producer (Partridge Family, Lulu) Wes Farrell in 1972. Chelsea had a sublabel, Roxbury Records, that focused on the soul and R&B market. RCA Records originally handled distribution for Chelsea, but Farrell switched to independent distributors in 1974. Chelsea Records was active until 1977 when it was folded into RCA.
