Coral Records was an American subsidiary of Decca Records, founded in 1949. Coral released plenty of pop albums during the 1950s, but most notably it was the home for Buddy Holly. In the UK, the label began in 1954 as Vogue Coral for the then independent Vogue Company, but when it was taken over by Decca UK the Vogue name was eventually dropped.
American Decca merged with MCA in 1962, but Coral continued to operate as a subsidiary until 1971 with new album releases throughout the 1960s. When MCA consolidated all of its brands (Decca, Uni, Kapp) under its MCA Records label, Coral was repositioned under the name MCA Coral as a reissue label that released over 100 compilations, and reprints of MCA's former budget label Vocalion between 1973 and 1974.
Coral Records UK was in continued use by British Decca from 1963 to the end of the decade, releasing material from the American Coral and Brunswick labels in the United Kingdom. Most of the Coral catalogue is now owned by Universal Music Group.
