Chapter One Records (Chapter 1) is a company originally set up by composer Les Reed OBE in 1968, "to house popular and middle of the road recordings featuring singers, orchestras and big band music, to retain the trend of quality material and to compete with the rock explosion that was happening at that time." The label has survived until today, and to add another quote from its website, "the catalogue encompasses such diverse products as Folk Music, Classical Recordings, Choirs of Britain, Steel Bands, Country Music, Jazz, Popular Music and Orchestral Music as well as famous comedians that can sing!"
Chapter One was owned by the Les Reed Organisation and distributed by Decca Records in the UK from 1969 to 1974, when all of its original albums were released. In the United States, Chapter One released only three albums between 1970 and 1971, all of them distributed by London Records.
