Ovation Records was founded in 1970 by Dick Schory, who had been on RCA Records with his Percussion Pops Orchestra and had helped create the Dynagroove process used by RCA. With Ovation, Schory pioneered quadraphonic records from the very beginning, then called 4-channel disks. In 1973/74, Ovation was the only record label to exclusively produce quadraphonic records, launching promotional campaigns in cooperation with Japanese hardware manufacturers.
Much of the label's output was country music, but Ovation also recorded plenty of rock and pop music. Ovation Records survived until 1981.
For several years, all Ovation LPs were released only in quadraphonic format.
