Jubilee Records was founded in New York City in 1946 by Herb Abramson. It was Abramson's first record company, started one year before he founded Atlantic Records. Jerry Blaine became Abramson's partner and bought out Abramson's half of the company in 1947. The company name was Jay-Gee Record Company, a subsidiary of the Cosnat Corporation, a wholesale record distributor.
Jubilee was primarily a rhythm and blues label, but other genres were present as well. The subsidiary Josie Records was started in 1954. When Jubilee went out of business in 1970, the back catalogue of both Josie and Jubilee were acquired by Roulette Records. The rights to the Jubilee label in North America are now owned by Warner Music.
