Design Records was a budget label subsidiary of Pickwick International, founded in 1957. Until 1965 all releases were mono only. Stereo versions were released on the sister-label Stereo Spectrum Records.
Like many of the other budget labels, Design Records used their in-house staff to write the songs and to perform the generic orchestral arrangements. Among the other staff writers Lou Reed appeared as a singer and guitarist as well as a songwriter on several of the mid-1960s Design compilations and albums.
Design Records folded in the early 1970s.
