Cube Records is the relaunched/successor label of David Platz' Fly Records.
When by spring 1972 a bunch of important label executives and top act Marc Bolan had left Fly Records, label owner David Platz opted for a re-launch with a new roster of artists and label name. The Fly logo is still present in the relaunched Cube Records, as the Cube logo shows a fly trapped inside a cube. The headline of the press release issued in May 1972 to communicate this development boldly stated "Essex [the parent company of both labels] puts Fly into Cube". Cube continued using Fly's numbering system (HIFLY), but with only one Fly artist (John Williams) remaining on the new label.
While Fly Records was operating only in the UK, Cube's new releases were also issued in several international markets. Cube Records was active well into the 1980s, although it stopped producing its own releases early in the decade and issued mostly compilations and re-released of older Cube/Fly or licensed material.
