Dolton Records was founded in 1958 in Seattle as Dolphin Records by Bob Reisdorf and Bonnie Guitar. Success for the label came early with "Come Softly to Me" by The Fleetwoods, their first single release. Right after that release, Reisdorf learned that there was another Dolphin Records, a subsidiary of Laurie, so he changed the name to Dolton. The new label retained the fish symbols on the logo and the fonts associated with the Dolphin name.
Major Dolton artists besides The Fleetwoods included The Ventures, Vic Dana, and The Frantics. From the start, Dolton Records was distributed by Liberty, and after it was sold in the early 1960s it eventually merged with Liberty Records in 1966. Liberty discontinued the Dolton label in 1967, transferring its artists to the parent label.
