Time Records was started in 1960 by producer Bob Shad in New York. Shad already had a long career in the industry and worked for several record labels, beginning with Savoy Records and National Records in the 1940s. In 1951 he became director of A&R at Mercury Records, where he founded the EmArcy label.
Much of Time's output was in the easy listening, space age and cocktail pop genres, but the label did also release several blues and jazz albums which are worth looking for. Time Records had two subsidiary labels, Brent and Shad, which both had minor hits but didn't produce any longplay albums. In 1964 Bob Shad founded Mainstream Records, where several of the Time albums were reissued. Time Records was closed in 1966.
