Glades Records was founded in 1959 by producer Henry Stone in Miami, Florida. The label is named after the Florida Everglades. Stone established his own independent publishing companies and several record labels from 1955 on. He said, that it was easier to get records played if the radio stations did not realize they came from the same source.
For the first 14 years, Glades was a singles-only label with a very sparse output of new releases. That changed in the early 1970s, and the label's first album came out in 1973. Glades Records was part of the TK Productions group of labels, and when TK Records was sold to Roulette in 1980, the Glades name was dropped.
